so, kirito was poisoned by that laughing coffin member right, and cause of it was unconcious, basically a coma, no hospital was able to treat him so they put him into that game thing, while they heal is fluctlights ( his brain ) cause it was damaged. They also put him in there cause they needed an experienced test subject,

Kirito doesnt really remember the attack,(iirc his fluctlights are being blocked or smth so when he woke up in the forest he thought it was a VRMMO, like SAO, but when he met Eugeo, Eugeo didnt understand anything bout VRMMO and that, but he was to complicated to be an NPC, thats when Kirito realised he is in the virtual world where basically real people have been created
